Abstract
Systolic time intervals were determined from the mechanocardiograms, simultaneously recorded electrocardiograms, phonocardiograms and carotid sphygmograms, in 200 normal males and females. All the systolic time intervals except the transformation period showed significant inverse correlations with heart rate(HR) and the following regression equations were obtained. Electromechanical systole (msec) Male: 491-1.62 HR¡¾14 (S.E.) Female: 513-1.77 HR¡¾15 (S.E.)
Mechanical systole (msec) Male: 422-1.45 HR¡¾11 (S.E.) Female: 449-1.66 HR¡¾14 (S.E.) Left ventricular ejection time (msec) Male: 365-1.26HR¡¾12(S.E.) Female:372-1.25HR¡¾13 (S.E.) Preejection period (msec) Male: 126-0.38 HR¡¾12 (S.E.)
Female: 140-0.52 HR¡¾11 (S.E.) Isovolumic contraction time (msec) Male: 58-0.21 HR¡¾9 (S.E.) Female: 76-0.40HR¡¾11 (S.E.) Each of the systolic time interval corrected for the heart rate by Bazett¢¥s formula showed no significant difference from the respective one derived from our regression equation by substituting 60 for heart rate. This suggested that Bazett¢¥s formula was also appropriate for the correction of systolic time intervals for heart rate of 60 per minute.
